Frequently Asked Questions

How does the currency converter work?

Our converter pulls live mid-market rates from the interbank market, updated in real time during trading hours. Enter your amount, select your currencies, and you see the current rate instantly.

What is the difference between mid-market and transfer rates?

The mid-market rate is the real exchange rate between two currencies. Transfer rates include a margin that covers the cost of the service. Banks typically add 2–4%. We are transparent about our margins upfront.

Do you offer better rates than banks?

Yes. For transfers over £5,000, Cambridge Currencies typically beats bank rates significantly. On a £100,000 transfer the difference can be several thousand pounds. Get a free quote to compare.

What currencies do you support?

We support 30+ currencies including GBP, EUR, USD, CHF, CAD, AUD, JPY, NZD, AED, SGD, ZAR and more. See the full list in the converter above.

How fast do transfers arrive?

Most transfers settle the same business day. Some routes take 1–2 business days depending on the destination country and banking cut-off times.

Are client funds safeguarded?

Yes. Funds are safeguarded by our FCA-regulated e-money partners at a credit institution throughout the entire transfer process, regardless of the amount.

Can I fix a rate for a future transfer?

Yes. We offer forward contracts, allowing you to lock in today’s rate for a transfer up to 12 months ahead. Useful when buying a property abroad and you need cost certainty.

What is the minimum transfer amount?

We handle transfers from a few hundred pounds up to millions. Dedicated account management is provided for transfers over £25,000.
